Hey, I'mManuel Kühnle.

I am very much into Machine Learning, especially how models work and how they can be used to solve problems in science and engineering.

What I'm doing right now

I am currently pursuing my M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence in Society at TU Munich. It combines technical training in machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and NLP with a focus on interpretability, fairness, data protection, and the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI applications. I recently developed interest in mechanistic interpretability i.e. understanding how black-box models work internally and how they arrive at their predictions.

I also completed the module Scientific Machine Learning and Numerical Analysis at École Polytechnique (L’X). There, I learned to combine classical numerical methods with neural networks to solve forward and inverse problems governed by PDEs. I wrote my final experiment on spectral neural operators. This got me really interested in getting deeper into physics-based ML and data-driven computing.

Model Check

Mechanistic Interpretability

An interactive tool for checking an open-source language model's answers. Switch off parts of its network to see what an answer rests on, test whether the usual explanations hold up, and compare how it decides when only a name changes.

Hand-Gesture-Controlled Saturn Simulation

Visualization

A particle‑based Three.js simulation visualizing Saturn and a few moons with real‑world dimensions and physics‑based motion. It uses the webcam to translate real-time hand gestures into interactive navigation and simulation controls.

Gaze-Driven LLM Source Verification

Code

An automated fact-checking application that verifies claims from LLMs in real-time based on the user's reading focus and dwell time. It integrates webcam-based eye-tracking to detect longer gaze durations and triggers Google Search Grounding via the Gemini API for instant validation.

Wasser Werte

Web App

An independent web app that looks up the water hardness and other tap water values by postal code, town, or address. I noticed there was no easy way in Germany to look up these values, so I built the tool and aggregated the water utilities' published analyses, checking them for plausibility.

Software Engineer at Phantum

I also volunteer in the software department of Phantum, a student club at TUM that designs, builds, and flight-tests high-performance UAVs. We are currently flying the electric aircraft Weasel and developing a jet version for an under-25 kg world speed record attempt.
